Grange welcomes sporting facilities at new WIHCON housing development

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, has commended West Indies Home Contractors (WIHCON) on providing sporting facilities at its new housing development, The Lofts, on Arthur Wint Drive, Kingston.

WIHCON yesterday broke ground for the construction of 128 apartment units, targeted at young professionals, investors and the Diaspora market.

The minister, who was speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, described the apartment complex as a place that is poised to “promote the wellness of residents by providing access to participate in sport and physical activity”.

“I’m delighted to see that this development will feature a club house with a gym, a running track, and tennis court.”

The minister said those amenities will allow residents to participate in sporting activity all day, every day, which is one of the aims of the national sport policy.

Grange also contributed items commemorating Jamaica’s 55th year of independence to a Time Capsule that was buried on the construction site of the The Lofts.

Also included in the time capsule is soil from WIHCON’s first development 60 years ago as well as soil from the current site and a copy of the plan.

The apartment complex is priced from $13.8 million for a studio apartment up to $21 million for a two-bedroom unit. Construction of the apartment complex is expected to be completed over the next 18 months.

Arthur Wint Drive — which is considered prime location for its close proximity to the Children’s Hospital, the Normal Manley International Airport and business destinations New Kingston, Liguanea, Half-Way-Tree and downtown, Kingston — is also home to the National Stadium.
