British Caribbean Insurance Company (BCIC) has offered general insurance solutions to Jamaicans for over 50 years, and has been a subsidiary of ICD Group since 1987. BCIC is licensed in accordance with the Insurance Act 2001 and underwrites all major lines of insurance including Property and Casualty, Motor, Accident, Liability and Financial Guarantees.

Dorothy Russell-Clarke is a Chartered Insurer with more than 30 years of experience in general insurance. She holds a BSc Management Studies from the University of the West Indies. She currently holds the position of General Manager – Insurance Solutions at BCIC. Dorothy has developed BCIC’s reputation as the leading insurer for Contractors All Risk Insurance and Bonds and forged a relationship between the company and the construction industry. She has spearheaded and executed many insurance industry initiatives over the years. She serves the insurance fraternity as Chairperson – Board of the College of Insurance and Professional Studies [CIPS], Jamaica and as Chairperson – Sub-Committee for Underwriting & Claims (General Insurance) of the Insurance Association of Jamaica [IAJ].
Simone Foote’s career in the general insurance industry spans 23 years. Her current position as Marketing Manager at British Caribbean Insurance Company entails managing the company’s marketing & public relations programme; ensuring that the company’s image is aligned with its strategic goals. She takes great pride in being a valued team member of some of BCIC’s major initiatives, which includes serving as a member of the project team which executed the merger of BCIC and Victoria Mutual Insurance Company (VMIC) in 2011, and most recently, BCIC’s creation of it premier motor product, Diamond Max, which is an auto insurance product offering innovative benefits at a lower cost for drivers over the age of 60. She is a graduate of University of the West Indies, Mona, holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Hons.); she also holds a Diploma in Marketing from the University College of the Caribbean (UCC), formerly Institute of Management and Production (IMP). She has also completed professional insurance courses both locally and overseas. She sits on the Insurance Association of Jamaica [IAJ] Sub-Committee for Public Relations and Consumer Affairs.
Doreen Samuels is the Human Resource Manager at BCIC. She holds a Master’s Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Human Resource Management, a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of the West Indies and has participated in numerous management and leadership development training courses. Her ability to integrate her real world professional experience in the bauxite/alumina, petroleum, maritime, insurance and the tertiary sectors with academic theory sets her apart and enhances her expertise and service delivery in the workplace and in the classroom. A member of the Human Resource Management Association of Jamaica (HRMAJ), she serves on the Conference Planning Committee. She is also a member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).
Michelle is a dynamic General Insurance Professional with the ability to straddle both the technical underwriting and sales sides of the business. Her ability to blend her technical underwriting and sales talents has helped BCIC’s clients across a range of industries, including banking and finance, construction, engineering, transportation and hospitality to achieve outstanding results. Her broad knowledge of the local and international insurance marketplace coupled with her acute sense of the needs of intermediaries and individual insurance purchasers has allowed her to effectively penetrate and develop key competitive accounts. She is a natural leader who is very passionate about sales and is adept at maintaining customer loyalty as well as forging strong relationships with business partners both in the local and international markets. Michelle’s career in insurance started at BCIC in 1990 and includes years in the UK where she worked for Aviva plc and AIG (Europe) Limited. She returned to Jamaica and spent 18 months at CGM Gallagher Insurance Brokers Jamaica Limited. Michelle re-joined BCIC in 2009 in the capacity of Business Development Officer and has been promoted three times since. She is a graduate of the University of Central England, where she obtained a degree in Business Administration. In her current position of GM – Insurance Solutions for the Barbados and Jamaica branches, Michelle manages Reinsurance, BCIC’s Direct & Intermediary Sales, along with the Business Processing Teams.
Monique serves as General Counsel for BCIC. In January 2011, Monique created BCIC’s first in-house Legal Department, which currently has conduct for more than 80 per cent of the company’s litigation matters. As head of the Legal and Compliance Department, her main functions include, representing individual and corporate policyholders in civil actions, negotiating settlements involving complex and multi-party disputes, providing legal support and advice for the company’s management team and directing programmes and procedures to ensure compliance with Anti-Money Laundering Legislation and insurance regulations. Monique served in a senior management capacity as Claims Manager and Legal Counsel at Victoria Mutual Insurance Company (VMIC) Limited, which merged with BCIC in December 2010. Monique has written on a number of insurance legal issues and most recently published an article on Procedures for Insuring Deceased Persons’ Assets. She is Vice Chairperson of the Claims and Underwriting Sub-Committee of the Insurance Association of Jamaica [IAJ] and serves as an Arbitrator on the IAJ’s panel of Arbitrators.
Peter Levy is a Chartered Insurance Professional and Managing Director of BCIC. He has been part of
Jamaica’s General Insurance industry for over 30 years, with more than 24 of them in management roles. He combines strong technical skills with a goal of always delivering outstanding value for BCIC’s customers. He is also in the distinctive position of having been integral in managing two successful mergers in the Jamaican insurance industry, once as part of the acquired company, and once as part of the company acquiring. In 2013, Peter was appointed a Vice-President of the Insurance Association of Jamaica [IAJ], and chairs the Association’s General Insurance Committee.
Garth Rowe has served as Chief Financial Officer of BCIC since 1995 and acted as a Director from 2004 to May 2010. Prior to joining the BCIC’s team in 1990, Garth was a Senior Field Auditor in the firm of Deloitte & Touche where he worked for more than two years. Garth has held the post of Chairman for the Board of Trustees of the ICD Group et al pension schemes since 2003 and is the Chairman of the Insurance Association of Jamaica [IAJ] Finance Committee.
Benjamin joined BCIC as Head of IT Infrastructure & Implementation in 2013. He possesses an exceptional track record in the development and maintenance of business intelligence solutions, with over 10 years’ experience in the field of Information Technology. Since joining BCIC, Benjamin spearheaded the implementation of a private cloud infrastructure for both desktops and servers throughout the ICD Group.He holds a Master’s Degree in Management Information Systems from the University of the West Indies and has a wealth of experience in Information Technology including Network, Database and Systems Management. Benjamin holds responsibility for the provision of Information Technology services for BCIC and the ICD Group.
Raymond has been pivotal in helping BCIC create value for customers through the use of data and analytics since July 2009. With his proven knowledge and experience in ratemaking, reserving & analytics, Raymond spearheaded the formation of BCIC’s first Analytics team in July 2015. He leads this team with the main objective of transforming BCIC into a more data driven organization, employing data to guide pricing and product development. Raymond has been instrumental in the development of a number of BCIC’s products such as the Diamond Max and the Classic Car motor products. He holds a BSc. in Economics & Mathematics from the University of the West Indies and is a member of the Caribbean Actuarial Association (CAA) where he serves on the General Insurance Committee, which developed the first General Insurance standard for the Caribbean. Raymond is also a member of the International Actuarial Association (IAA) where he served on their Working Party on Data Analytics in 2015. He co-authored a paper on Data Analytics and presented on the subject at the 2015 ASTIN/AFIR/ERM/IACA Colloquia in Sydney Australia.
