WIHCON Combines Kingston Operations, Moves To New HQ

West IndiesHome Contractors (WIHCON) set up new headquarters at Harbour Head in East Kingston consolidating at least three bases from which the six-decade old company operated in the capital.

The relocation took seven months to complete.

WIHCON now resides close to its next housing development project. It occupies the property under a long-term lease.

Harbour Head brings together its head office, which previously operated from Breezy Castle near the downtown Kingston waterfront, a warehouse at Ashenheim Road in the Kingston Industrial Estate, and a development and sales team in New Kingston, said Managing Director Delroy Alcott.

” … There was an opportunity here to gather a number of departments that were scattered around in one place. It was just the perfect opportunity and space for us to bring the business back under one roof and to realise the synergies that can come when you’re right together and can speak together and be in one place,” Alcott told Gleaner Business.

The consolidation, which brought together around 120 staff members, began soon after WIHCON signed a joint venture agreement to constrict 96 residences on a three-acre property that is adjacent to its new headquarters. Alcott says the entire property is 6.5 acres.

The site previously housed the operations of Kier Construction, which pulled out of Jamaica about two years ago, according to president of the Incorporated Master builders Association, Humphrey Taylor.

WIHCON completed its relocation to the new complex last month.

“We feel we have the opportunity to lay roots for a while and branch out to do the things that we have to do,” Alcott said.

“As a company we are looking for opportunities all over,” he added.
