The Youth Upliftment Through Employment (YUTE) programme was launched in 2010 by a coalition of concerned private and public sector organisations and international development agencies, led by the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), in response to the persistently high levels of crime and violence among the young (16-29), unattached (unemployed or outside the labour force, and not in school or in training) in Kingston’s most volatile inner-city communities.
YUTE is geared at improving the level of employability of its participants and providing job placement/internships opportunities for participants to gain appropriate on the job skills. The employability of YUTE participants is increased through the provision of:
– Educational/Technical training services,
– The identification of appropriate job readiness and job placement,
– The provision of life skills, entrepreneurship and personal development training and mentorship.
The programme targets young persons between the ages of 16 – 29 who are largely part excluded from the social and economic fabric of Jamaica.
